This is Vinita, and here is my story. Khichdi: rice and lentils. Two simple words that embrace the beauty of my childhood in India.
My story began with fragrant and colorful days at my father's small grain business where I understood the importance of the quality of the food we eat because it is the way in which we give back to our body.
But little did I know that one day I could, through a one-pot meal, not only give back to my body but start giving back to the world in a cycle of flavorful goodness.
Years went by and it was in 2004, when denim and frameless sunglasses with faded lenses were all the rage, that my family and I moved to the United States of America.
My son grew up in the blink of an eye and set off to college in California. There, he struggled to find healthy, easy-to-prepare meals, so I began shipping him packets of snacks, lentils, and spices.
Food became the closest way to tell him “I love you” and being able to hug him with a taste of goodness gave me an idea...
If I was able to give my son the chance to enjoy a homemade meal in 20 minutes from his college dorm, maybe, I could make that happen for more people.
And that is how Karma Spices was born as a tribute to the eternal cycle of giving the best to receive the best, not only to others but to ourselves.
I began to be part of some farmers markets at home in Michigan and people little by little fell in love with the careful, tasty and healthy snacks that are forming our portfolio and you can now enjoy every day.
